Details: It does not have a plugin feature to add things like cross-fade or visualisation. But it does have a correct "spirit".
Pros: Simple to use, powerfull rating, searching.
Cons: Blocks audio from other apps(gstreamer?), hangs when url to play is broken, no crossfade or plugins

Rhythmbox 0.8.8 |
Summary: Excellent navigation but lacking other features
Details: I converted to Rhythmbox from XMMS almost as soon as the first time I used it. The sound is excellent and searching/sorting by artist/genre/track/album is simple. The only real lacking feature for me is an EQ. I miss that feature, being a former XMMS junkie, although I must say that even without an EQ Rhythmbox still sounds better than XMMS did! XMMS-like plugins would be a nice addition also.
Pros: Easy to use, good searching/sorting features
Cons: No EQ, plugins, or visualizations

Summary: A GNOME playlist-based audio player
Details: Rhythmbox is a playlist-based Audio Player. It is distributed with Fedora Core 3, and is useful at playlist-based tasks. It uses GNOME, so KDE-only users can't use it unless they have GNOME libraries.
Pros: Good for playlists, uses OGG, blends with GNOME
Cons: Not skinnable, horrid for single-song work, no MP3 (may just be FC3), FoxyTunes support sucks

Rhythmbox 0.9.2 |
Summary: Very spartanic, but easy to use player
Details: Execpt the audioscrobbler mode, this player has got almost no features at all. No album images, no lyrics, no "smart" play lists, just plain old playback. However, it is very easy to use, but has got a nasty error on updating a directory, which causes the same song to appear multiple times in the database. The local xml "database" is also a big con, since it makes it impossible to use the same metadata on two different machines. In the ages of WLAN, mySQL and PostgreSQL, this limitation is ridiculous.
Pros: Easy to use, perfect Gnome integration
Cons: very spartatic player, nasty errors, only local xml "database"
