Summary: Quickly Developing to be Incredible Player
Details: I really think this player has a lot of potential. It is increasing in features every few days by a lot and is pretty stable for a devel version. I really love the UI, but I think it could have a "mini" version also. The current CVS version already supports the IPOD and other media players. The best part is that it stores music data in a db keeping it fast and has powerful dynamic playlist support.
Pros: Dynamic Playlists, Ratings, Search, iPod support, Clean UI
Cons: No Mini Interface, CDDB support needs improvement, no iPod syncing yet
Period used: 1 1/2 months
Other products used: Winamp, Windows Media, Real, Quicktime, Itunes, XMMS,

musikCube .0.92.2.1 |
Summary: Clean, simple media player
Details: foobar is the stereotypical simple media player. But to set it up you generally have to go through a long, complex process of getting all the necessary plugins. musikCube has all that's needed right out of the box. Best of all, it has a freakin' awesome interface. Windows'! I love it.
Pros: VERY clean user interface, low memory usage
Cons: Not widely used so plugin support is poor
Period used: A few months

Summary: great app to keep track of all music on your comp.
Details: I use musikCube for the powerful database function. I can create dynamic playlists and search through all my mp3s, oggs, and FLACs. As an audiophile, I'm more appreciative of the newly added FLAC support and the ability to listen to my music in lossless quality. CD Ripping support is a definite plus too.
Pros: Very powerful program with little resource usage. Pretty stable app.
Cons: no SHN (shorten lossless format) support

Summary: AWESOME PROGRAM
Details: This has to be the single best program I have ever used (yes better than winamp). This program makes winamp look like a pile of trash. I love your new ripping ability and how you can edit the artists individually for each track as well as applying the same artist to all of the tracks. That feature helps a lot with burned discs. Sound is great. Another thing I find great is the small size of the program. With my browser consuming over 100,000 kbs of my memory and 70% of my cpu this fits nicely in the little memory I have left. There is so many features of this program I am failing to mention. You just have to see it for yourself if you haven't downloaded it. The equalizers 16 bands is extremely impressive (there is a 6 band option too). I almost forgot to mention this program's ability to organize your music. This programs ability to organize your music is unbelievable and it does not go laggy on you like winamp after 20 gbs of music is put in winamp's music storage. All and all this is my favorite program hands down. If you are skeptical about it just try it and you will see I was not kidding.
Pros: too many to list. however i do love the response time by the developer to problems.
Cons: none for me

Summary: great, small, fast
Details: a visual cross between foobar2000 and iTunes, though it errs on the side of iTunes by way of features (being lack thereof). the program is at it's best in managing a large library of songs, which can be sorted and refined using its various columns by artist, genre, album, or quick search. the program is also in active development, meaning that new features will be added accordingly.

Summary: An inobtrusive light player
Details: Sometimes as I found a skin for WinXP that I really liked, I proceeded to look for a music player skin that looked more or less consistent with the theme. It was sometimes easy, for example if you are using an Apple-inspired theme, but I often found out that I had to continue the search as none of the skins for Winamp or WMP had even a similar color arrangement. Also, the music players tend to eat up a lot of ram and try to be the center of the party, sometimes they won't even let you send them to the notification tray. On the other side of the boat, the less obtrusive players lack features that I consider important, such as a quick way to find the song you want in the moment or a way to edit the song's tags. Enter musikCube, a player that doesn't tries to impress you with eyecandy, but gives you all the features you need. Things such as finding a song is just matter of a click and start writing the name. The software finds what I want most times even before I finish writing. Other packed-in features are really useful, such as auto-capitalizing the songs (even the entire library if you desire), and removing extra-spacing. All of that with a memory consumption that is never more than 5 MB. I'm sold.
Pros: Feature complete, inobtrusive, light player
Cons: Lacks support to formats such as WMA
Period used: 2 months

Summary: Musik cube is a really ease to use player for windows
Details: Musikcube is a really good player for someone who wants to digitalise his CD collection, the big advantage over eg windows media player, winamp or realplayer is that you keep a good overview and browse possibilities over the artists and cd's! (and of course is a nice advantage over the WMP, wimamp and realplayer is that it is 'opensource' (BSD licence) something really important in my eyes..
Pros: good player, opensource

Summary: I've been looking for a way to ditch iTunes - this is it
Details: iTunes has an amazingly groovy interface. I use keywords in my comment fields to describe the song type. For example, rockin, groovy, funky, upbeat, mushy, melancholy, dark, hyper... you get the picture. I then have 'smart' playlists for each keyword. If you combine this with a rating system, it's easy to see why this is the best way to listen to a huge collection. Until now iTunes was the only app that gave me this functionality, but its memory footprint is huge and it isn't compatible with WMA, OGG and many other formats. MusikCube, since the appearance of the AAC plug-in, is my new champion.
Pros: Best I've found yet
Cons: I'm still getting the hang of it... interface not quite as good as itunes
